Police Blotter is a sampling of crimes in Baltimore City and Baltimore County.

Western District

Robbery: A gunman asked a man for a cigarette, then robbed him of more than $100 about midnight Monday in the first block of S. Carrollton Ave.

Drug arrest: Police stopped a man in the 2300 block of W. Lanvale St. about 4 p.m. Monday after receiving information that he had a handgun. Officers searched the man and found several bags of suspected marijuana in his pockets but no weapon. The man, a resident of the 700 block of N. Appleton St., was charged with possession of suspected marijuana.

Rape attempt: A man forced a 16-year-old girl into the basement of a house in the 2400 block of Etting St. about 9 p.m. Monday, struck her in the face several times and then tried to rape her. After a struggle, the girl escaped and reported the incident to police. No arrest had been made.

Southern District

Burglary: A videocassette recorder and a TV, valued at $200, were stolen Monday from a house in the 200 block of S. Gilmor St.

Theft: A laptop computer valued at more than $1,000 was stolen Friday from an office on the sixth floor of the Camden Yards warehouse in the 300 block of W. Camden St. The theft was reported Saturday.

Northwestern District

Stolen car: A 1987 Pontiac with tags EHP 633 was stolen Monday in the 3700 block of Egerton Road.

Robbery: A man was in the 3700 block of W. Belvedere Ave. about 7 p.m. Monday when a gunman robbed him of nearly $300.

Eastern District

Assault: Police were seeking a 15-year-old boy who struck a 27-year-old man on the head with a milk crate Monday in the 2900 block of E. Monument St. The victim refused treatment.

Cutting: Two men were arguing in the 800 block of N. Streeper St. Monday when one cut the other on the left arm with a knife. The victim was treated at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Theft from vehicle: A compact-disc player valued at $100 was stolen Monday from a 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck parked in the 1600 block of E. Eager St.

Theft: A woman, 23, was being sought after she stole nearly $100 from the shirt pocket of a man she was visiting Monday in the 1800 block of N. Port St.

Northern District

Theft: A mountain bike valued at nearly $200 was stolen from the back yard of a house in the 700 block of Berry St. Sunday or Monday.

Theft from vehicle: A cellular phone valued at $100 was stolen Monday from a 1993 Honda Accord parked in the 3500 block of N. Charles St.

Burglary: An aquarium, an organ, a set of German knives, four statues valued at $25 each, a sofa bed, a pillow, a TV cable box and a 19-inch TV -- all valued at more than $4,000 -- were stolen Monday from a house in the 2400 block of N. Calvert St.

Theft: Furniture valued at nearly $150 was stolen Monday from the front porch of a house in the 800 block of E. 33rd St.

North Point Precinct

Theft/arrest: A 24-year-old woman was arrested Monday when she attempted to leave the J.C. Penney department store in Eastpoint Mall without paying for clothing valued at more than $400.

Parkville Precinct

Theft: An undisclosed sum of money was stolen Monday from a safe at Wockenfuss candies in North Plaza Mall, in the 8800 block of Waltham Woods Road.

Towson Precinct

Theft: A touring bike valued at $2,000 was stolen from a house in the 1400 block of Malvern Ave. between Aug. 27 and Sunday.

Robbery try: A motorist was stopped at White Oak and Oakleigh roads about midnight Sunday when two apparently unarmed youths demanded his money. When the motorist refused to comply, the youths fled. The motorist chased the youths for several blocks before losing them.
