Westminster man pleads guilty to child pornography charge

August 29, 1997

A Westminster man pleaded guilty yesterday to distributing child pornography and was ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation before he is sentenced Dec. 15.

Circuit Judge Luke K. Burns Jr. also ordered Michael Jay Potts, 22, to have no contact with the 16-year-old victim, who prosecutors said was enticed by Potts to make a videotape that included frontal nudity. The boy was 14 when the incident occurred in March 1996.

In addition, Potts may not have contact with any juveniles under age 16, Burns said.

In return for his guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to drop charges of soliciting a juvenile for child pornography and conspiracy to distribute child pornography.
