Security Square Mall could be on the verge of change as a result of its purchase in May by Capital Investment Associates, a real estate developer and management firm.
Capital has hired Hicks & Rotner Retail Inc. of Towson as its exclusive leasing agent for the 1.1 million-square-foot mall in Woodlawn.
Hicks & Rotner is conducting a marketing study to look at the mix of shops and the areas the mall draws shoppers from, said Scott Yurow of Hicks and Rotner.
One hole will have to be filled quickly when F. W. Woolworth moves out of its 62,000-square-foot space at Security. The mall with the largest square footage in the Baltimore area, Security has more than 120 stores and includes Hecht Co., J. C. Penney Co., Montgomery Ward & Co. and Sears Roebuck & Co. as anchors.
Yurow said the firm is excited about the project. Hicks & Rotner Retail is the leasing agent for several regional malls in the Baltimore and Washington area including City Place and Iverson Mall, both in the Washington suburbs. Security will be the company's only mall in Baltimore.
