Hits and misses

July 29, 1997|By Roch Kubatko

On the field: Lee Stevens led off the second inning with a long fly ball to center field that appeared to be the Rangers' second homer off Mike Mussina. Instead, it became another spectacular catch by Brady Anderson, who leaped at the fence to bring the ball back, then was given a standing ovation as he trotted off the field after the last out.

In the dugout: Roberto Alomar was back in the lineup and at the top of the order, with Jeffrey Hammonds batting second and Anderson dropping into the cleanup spot for the fifth time in six games. The Orioles are 4-1 with this configuration.

In the clubhouse: "I kind of like the idea of maybe pitching every night. It's different, though, there's no doubt about that. It's kind of like a car idling. As a starter, you're just turned off." -- Shawn Boskie, who has returned to the bullpen.
