July 27, 1997|By New York Times News Service

More than 2,000 restaurants in New York and San Francisco are the focus of new guides, "Access New York Restaurants 1997- 1998" and "Access San Francisco Restaurants 1997- 1998" (HarperCollins, $13 each).

The books include chapters on neighborhoods, with descriptions of restaurants and food shops; a map displaying them; recommendations from chefs and local residents; and short articles on specialties like coffee breaks in New York and dim sum in San Francisco.
