A Baltimore police officer was suspended yesterday after being charged with shooting at his wife at their home in White Marsh.
James Edward Keller, 53, a sergeant in the Central District, was indefinitely suspended without pay after a hearing stemming from an incident involving his wife, Bonnie, 51, police said.
According to city police officials, he is suspended pending a criminal investigation in Baltimore County and a city police internal affairs investigation.
Keller, a 28-year veteran of the police force, was arrested on first-degree assault charges at 7: 30 p.m. Thursday. One bullet had been fired into the wall of his house.
Mrs. Keller declined to comment, but according to police reports, the shooting occurred after an argument over a broken-down vehicle.
Keller was released from custody yesterday morning on $25,000 personal bond. Maj. Steve McMahon, Central District commander, suspended Keller after learning of the arrest.
Police spokeswoman Angelique Cook-Hayes said of the suspension, "We do not tolerate domestic violence, not with regular citizens and not in the department."
