Burglary suspect arrested after he dives through window

A Baltimore County man who escaped arrest on a burglary charge Monday night by jumping into the Patapsco River was captured by Baltimore City police the next night after he crashed through a window, trying to avoid capture, county police said yesterday.

Officer Dale Barbagallo of the White Marsh Precinct said Richard D. DeBlois, 31, crashed through a window of a house he had broken into in the 100 block of N. Ellwood Ave. in Southeast Baltimore in a futile attempt to flee police about 10: 30 p.m. Tuesday.

Barbagallo said he stopped DeBlois' van for a traffic violation Monday night at U.S. 40 and 66th Street in Rosedale.

After learning DeBlois was wanted for burglary, Barbagallo said he tried to arrest him but he drove off. After a 10-mile chase that ended near the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Dundalk, DeBlois jumped into the river.

DeBlois, of the 2500 block of Old North Point Road in Dundalk, is being held at Central Booking and Intake Center in Baltimore.
