A Wendy's restaurant in Elkridge was robbed over the weekend by a man carrying a semiautomatic handgun, Howard County police said.

Police said a man entered the fast-food restaurant in the 9100 block of Route 108 at 10: 35 p.m. Saturday and walked toward a restroom. Four employees and no customers were in the restaurant, police said.

A police report said the man appeared in the kitchen minutes later carrying a handgun. He ordered three employees into the freezer, the report said, then forced the manager to open the safe in the office.

Police said the manager was ordered into the freezer and the gunman took an undisclosed amount of cash from the safe. The robber threw the office telephone in a trash can.

Police described the suspect as black with a medium complexion, in his early to mid-20s, weighing 160 to 170 pounds. He was wearing tan shorts, a green-and-tan polo shirt, a black neoprene mask and black gloves.
