County police arrested a Glen Burnie man Thursday on charges of threatening a neighbor couple with a pitchfork.

Larry Thornton, 42, of the 7700 block of Hartwell Road was rTC charged with assault, police said.

Police said a man carrying a pitchfork approached David Payne, who was in his yard in the 7700 block of Hartwell Road, about 9 p.m. and threatened to stab him. When the man also approached Payne's wife, who was not identified by police, Payne grabbed the pitchfork and threw it, then went into the house and called police.

Officers went to the man's home, where they knocked for several minutes before the man opened a side door and yelled for police to leave him alone.

Because there were no steps to the door, which was several feet off the ground, Officers Keith Light and David Kase pulled their patrol car to the door and climbed on the front bumper to get inside and arrest the man, police said.

They found a pitchfork inside the door, police said.

One man held down a Glen Burnie woman while another raped her Thursday in a small community park off Third Avenue, county police said.

The woman, 26, was on a swing in the park, which is bordered by Lincoln, Glenview and Third avenues, shortly after 11 p.m. when the men approached and forced her to the ground.

After the rape, the men ran to the rear of the park, police said.

The woman called police and was treated at North Arundel Hospital.

Police did not have a detailed description of the men.

A man armed with a silver-colored handgun robbed a Severna Park Pizza Hut manager Friday as he walked to his car on the parking lot, county police said.

The manager told police he had left the restaurant in the 500 block of Benfield Road about 1: 30 a.m. when a man approached him, drew a gun and demanded money. The manager gave the man the restaurant's bank deposit bags containing an undisclosed amount of money, and the gunman fled east on Benfield Road in a small white car.
