The Walters Art Gallery will be one of five U.S. stops for the first touring exhibition of rare angel artfrom the collections of the Vatican Museum.
Sponsored by the Chrysler Corporation, "The Invisible Made Visible: Angels from the Vatican," will be on view at the Walters Nov. 8, 1998, through Jan. 3, 1999. It includes more than 100 paintings, sculptures, artifacts, ceramics and other works shown together for the first time.
In the exhibition are angels as envisioned by Raphael, Reni, Fra Angelico, Salvador Dali and other renowned artists. Spanning more than two millenniums, the collection features works from the Assyrian, Etruscan, Greek, Roman and Christian traditions.
Films will end
Due to funding cuts, the Walters Art Gallery will discontinue the "Walters Film House" after the screening of "Some Mother's Son" at 7: 30 p.m. Friday. The movie, a tale of murder and political intrigue, will be the only film shown in the originally scheduled "Films from Northern Ireland" series.
The Walters began its film presentations in 1992. Since then, it has showcased a variety of series -- from the cinema of Baltimore's own young filmmakers to internationally renowned Academy Award-winning movies.
Ticket prices for the remaining film is $3 for museum members, seniors and students, and $4 for nonmembers. Call 410-547-9000, Ext. 236.
