30 youths from Carroll County take part in Special Olympics

Approximately 30 Carroll County youths participated in the Maryland Special Summer Olympic games earlier this month at Towson State University.

In equestrian events, results were as follows:

Bruce Watt, silver in equitation, trail and dressage; Megan Roland, gold in equitation and trail, silver in dressage; Chuck Toth, gold in equitation, bronze in trail, fourth place in team relay; Stephanie Carpegna, bronze in equitation, fourth in trail, silver in team relay; Joshua Smith, gold in equitation, trail, team relay, dressage (demonstration); Erin Strevig, gold in equitation, bronze in trail, silver in team relay.

Also, Adam Dunn, fourth in equitation, silver in trail and team relay; Patrick Dawson, fourth in equitation, bronze in trail, silver in team relay; Ralph Gemmill, bronze in equitation, gold in trail and team relay; Shannon Smith, bronze in equitation, gold in trail, fourth in team relay; Carrie Billings, fourth in equitation, trail and team relay.

Results in other events were:

Nicole Hurley: first in 4-X-25-meter free swimming relay, second in 25-meter backstroke, first in 25-meter freestyle.

Gerry Ibex: fifth in 100-meter race, first in softball throw.

Jonathan Itson: fifth in 50-meter race, third in softball throw, first in standing long jump.

Grant Jones: fifth in 100-meter race, second in softball throw, first in standing long jump.

Allen Kipps: sixth in 100-meter race, fourth in softball throw, second in standing long jump.

Mark Minnon: placed in softball throw.

Nicki Nalesnik: first in 4-X-25-meter free swimming relay, fourth in 100-meter freestyle, first in 25-meter freestyle, third in 50-meter freestyle.

Tamara Page: fifth in 50-meter race, second in softball throw, fifth in standing long jump.

Erika Wheeler: third in 100-meter race, first in softball throw, fifth in standing long jump.

John Sollers: second in 100-meter race, third in 200-meter race, second in standing long jump.

Ann Sturgeon: first in 4-X-25-meter free swimming relay, second in 25-meter backstroke and 25-meter freestyle, fifth in 50-meter backstroke.

Jeannine Taylor: fifth in 50-meter race, second in softball throw, third in standing long jump.

Christine Utz: second in 100-meter race, placed in softball throw, fifth in standing long jump.

Vernon Wallace: fifth in 100-meter race, first in softball throw, third in standing long jump.

Ray Clark: third in 100-meter race, eighth in softball throw, first in standing long jump.

Kristin Davis: third in 200-meter race, second in softball throw.

Jennifer Doyle: third in 4-X-25-meter free swimming relay, third in 25-meter backstroke, fourth in 25-meter freestyle, third in 50-meter freestyle.

Tori Eshelman: first in 4-X-25-meter free swimming relay, fourth in 25-meter backstroke, first in 25-meter freestyle, fourth in 50-meter freestyle.
