Jazz for all

June 12, 1997|By Karen Keys

Young vs. old, contemporary vs. traditional. For once, varying camps can have the best of both worlds. For all that jazz and more, fans can trek down to "Jazz on the Hill '97" at Oregon Ridge on Saturday. Local musicians and vocalists will be on stage early in the day. Next, some of the most stellar "traditional" jazz performers from the Baltimore and Washington area will take the stage. As the day progresses, more "contemporary" jazz acts will perform. The culmination will be a performance by 4 PM, a group of international recording artists who will entertain with songs from their new album, "A Light in the Dark." In addition to 4 PM, the day of music will include Kim Waters, State of Affairz, Karen Goldberg, the Tom Lagana and Bill Boublitz Trio and the Victor Divoskin Quartet.

Gates open at noon at Oregon Ridge and the music starts at 1 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door, and students receive a $2 discount if they show an ID card. Call 888-223-3922 for tickets.
