Howard County Councilman Charles C. Feaga plans to launch his campaign for county executive in front of PJ's restaurant on Main Street in Ellicott City at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

Feaga, a West Friendship Republican, has been a conservative voice on the County Council since 1986. He is the first candidate to formally announce his campaign for next year -- but will not be the last.

Fellow Councilman Dennis R. Schrader, a North Laurel Republican known as a moderate, is likely to challenge Feaga for the party's nomination for county executive.

Councilman C. Vernon Gray of east Columbia plans to run on the Democratic side.

Feaga, 64, was born in Howard County and has lived on the same 211-acre cattle and dairy farm on Frederick Road since childhood. He plans to focus his campaign on controlling taxes and the county's debt while maintaining the quality of public schools.

"A large measure of my time will be spent working directly for and with the people of Howard County," Feaga said in a news release. "My door is always open."
