A 32-year-old man, who apparently suffered a blow to the back of the head, was found dead in an alley behind a North Baltimore bar yesterday morning, police said.

Police said a passer-by discovered the body of James Wade Reeves after 10 a.m., next to a trash bin behind B. J.'s Pub and Grille in the 3800 block of Falls Road in Hampden. Reeves, who lived in the area but whose address was unavailable, was wearing a sweat shirt, boxer shorts and socks, police said.

Reeves' sandals, pants, valuables and other personal effects were found on the bar's second-floor back porch, police said.

Police have not ruled out the possibility that Reeves fell off the back porch but are considering his death questionable, pending autopsy results expected today.

"People don't just walk around without their pants and clothes," said homicide Detective Rick Requer.

Requer said Reeves suffered blunt force trauma to the back of the head.

Reeves, who had lived in the area all his life, was last seen at the bar at 1: 45 a.m. yesterday, police said. Bar patrons told police that Reeves had been there most of the night.

"He had a very good personality," said Elaine Ivins, 74, of Hampden who knew him all his life. "When he went by, he always spoke to me."
