Taneytown seeks new name for Rod & Gun Club Park

May 28, 1997

Taneytown is looking for a new name for its Rod & Gun Club Park.

The city bought the 26-acre park on Roberts Mill Road in 1991 from the Taneytown Rod & Gun Club, which moved to a 128-acre farm on Shoemaker Road.

Mayor W. Robert Flickinger said the park's name has caused some confusion among residents who interpret the site as a shooting area rather than a municipal park.

Proposed names may be mailed to the city office, 17 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown 21787.
