City completes sale of Eastern High site to Johns Hopkins

May 27, 1997|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

The city of Baltimore completed Thursday its previously announced sale of the former Eastern High School property on 33rd Street to the Johns Hopkins University, ending years of negotiations between the two parties.

Hopkins intends to begin renovating the 200,000-square-foot building this summer for use as offices, a business incubator and a high school for the Kennedy Krieger Institute.

Hopkins is also working with the Stadium School, an experimental community-based public school, as another potential tenant.

Its master plan for the 25-acre property allows construction of up to six office buildings on the grounds for the university, the federal government and private corporations.
