Baltimore County police are asking for help locating items that were stolen from a woman who was beaten and stabbed in her Pikesville home over the weekend.

Police are looking for a suspect in the attack on Barbara Jean Connell, 42, who was found by her roommate Saturday afternoon on the living room floor of their home in the 700 block of Silver Creek Road. Connell was in fair condition yesterday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, a spokeswoman said.

Connell's 1995 Ford Probe was taken but was recovered a short time later in the 3900 block of Milford Mill Road, said police spokesman Bill Toohey.

Missing are a large straw purse with brown trim; a new black Nokia portable phone; and an off-white interior table phone that was ripped from the wall.

"We want anyone who finds these items to leave them alone and call 911 immediately," Toohey said.

According to investigators, Connell was mowing her lawn about 2 p.m. and went into her house through the back door when she confronted her assailant in the house. He beat her in the face and stabbed her in the back, Toohey said, leaving her bleeding on the floor.

Toohey said the assailant chain-locked the front door, then went out through the back door and deadbolted it, apparently with Connell's key.

Connell's roommate found her when she arrived home from work about 4: 45 p.m.
