Hits and misses

May 08, 1997|By Roch Kubatko

On the field: B. J. Surhoff went 0-for-3, ending his hitting streak at 14 games, tying Ivan Rodriguez and Rafael Palmeiro for the longest in the AL this season.

In the dugout: Pete Incaviglia was back in the lineup after sitting out Tuesday's game, and he singled in the first inning. Davey Johnson had ended Incaviglia's string of eight consecutive starts in part because he thought Incaviglia was favoring his left forearm, which had been hit by a pitch Sunday.

In the clubhouse: "I'm ready to play for whoever needs me." -- Tony Tarasco, who was needed in the first inning after Eric Davis left with a hamstring injury.
