Fox Is 50th Largest In U.s. Car Sales

Fox Automotive Group of Baltimore and three other Maryland firms were among the 100 largest automotive dealer groups in the United States in 1996, according to rankings published in the April 21 edition of Automotive News.

DarCars Ltd. of Silver Spring ranked 22nd by selling 15,751 new automobiles last year. Gross revenue from all departments of its 16 dealerships was $520.8 million.

Placing 24th was Ourisman Automotive Enterprises of Marlow Heights, which sold 15,715 new cars at its 11 locations and had gross revenue of $517.2 million.

Fox placed 50th by selling 9,769 new vehicles at seven dealerships. Headquartered in Woodlawn, Fox had gross revenue of $300.6 million.

Lustine Automotive Group of Hyattsville sold 6,532 new cars to place 88th. Gross revenue for its six outlets was $270.6 million.

Arlington, Va.-based Rosenthal Automotive Organization was the top company doing business in Maryland, selling 20,160 new vehicles to place 14th.

Hendrick Automotive Group of Charlotte, N.C., sold 60,057 new cars at 69 locations to place first. It had revenue of $2.25 billion.
