A 32-year-old Baltimore man who told investigators he is addicted to heroin was charged yesterday with a string of armed robberies at Towson Town Center this month, police said.

Michael Lawrence Franklin, who lives in the 5600 block of Northwood Drive, was being held at the county detention center in lieu of $250,000 bond. He was arrested at his house yesterday, said police spokesman Bill Toohey.

Franklin is charged with robbing the Watch Station on April 6 and 17; Bostonian Shoes on April 16 and Sunday; Naturalizer Shoes on April 11; and Country Accents on Friday.

Police said fingerprints in the stores led them to Franklin.

Toohey said Franklin has told detectives that he has a $200-a-day heroin habit. That was about the amount of money stolen from each store, Toohey added.

The robberies occurred about a month after security was heightened at the 200-store shopping center.
