You'll swear it's the real thing when the best wildfowl carvings in the world are presented in the Ward World Carving Championship in Ocean City this weekend. See competitors enter their pieces in novice, intermediate, open and world categories. And learn who wins the "Best in the World" honor, awarded to artwork that assuredly is about to fly off the table.
If you're a bird-watcher you'll want to take part in the Delmarva Birding Weekend as well, taking place in conjunction with the World Carving Competition. Go on a peregrine falcon watch or on a search for night birds of the marsh and "Warblermania" or through other swamps and fields.
The Carving Championship takes place in the Ocean City Convention Center, 40th Street and Coastal Highway, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Three-day pass $16; adult daily $8; seniors and students daily $7; ages 12 and under free. Birding Weekend admission for trips range from $5 to $15. Call 410-742-4988 for the Carving Championship or 800-852-0335 for the Birding Weekend.
