Hits And Misses

April 23, 1997|By Joe Strauss

On the field: The wounded continue to mount in the Orioles' outfield. Pete Incaviglia was used as a pinch runner for DH Jerome Walton in the seventh inning when Walton came up limping. In the at-bat before Walton, left fielder B. J. Surhoff pulled a groin muscle running to first.

In the dugout: Davey Johnson started Eric Davis for the first time since April 15 and he and Rafael Palmeiro gave the Orioles their first back-to-back homers this season.

In the clubhouse: "He's going to get things rolling. Believe me, I know how it is in April when you start off like that." -- Orioles catcher and No. 8 hitter Chris Hoiles, on No. 9 hitter Mike Bordick.
