April 23, 1997

A Baltimore man pleaded guilty in Carroll County Circuit Court yesterday to robbing a Mount Airy bank twice last year.

Under a plea agreement, George L. Gray, 29, will be sentenced to no more than 15 years in prison, said prosecutor Jerry F. Barnes, the county's state's attorney.

Judge Francis M. Arnold set sentencing for June 20.

According to court records, Gray robbed the branch office of Frederick County National Bank in the 400 block of E. Ridgeville Blvd. on May 18 and Oct. 16, escaping with nearly $27,000.

Witnesses told authorities that the robber fled in a gray Hyundai and provided a license tag number. The car was found at an apartment complex in Baltimore in November and Gray was arrested afterward, police said.

Mount Airy: Firefighters responded at 8: 17 p.m. Monday to a house fire at Long Corner and Penn Shop roads. Units were out 17 minutes.
