Astros: Optioned IF Russ Johnson to Triple-A New Orleans.

Colorado Silver Bullets: Women's team named former Oriole Al Bumbry outfield and hitting coach.


Honors: Named Washington F Chris Webber Player of the Week. In the monthly awards for April, Phoenix G Kevin Johnson was the top player, Philadelphia G Allen Iverson was the top rookie and Charlotte's Dave Cowens was the top coach.

WNBA: Signed G Jamila Wideman.


Atlantic Coast Conference: Named Maryland's Sarah Forbes women's lacrosse Player of the Year and named Forbes to All-ACC first team with Maryland's Cathy Nelson, Sascha Newmarch, Ginette Chelius, Dana Gwaltney and Alex Kahoe and Baltimore-area players Peggy Boutilier (Virginia) and Erin McGinnis (North Carolina). Named North Carolina's Jenny Slingluff, a Roland Park graduate, Coach of the Year, and goalkeeper Kahoe the Rookie of the Year.
