April 22, 1997

A Hanover man was killed Saturday when his car struck a tree on Forest Avenue near Jessup, county police said.

Police said Milton Augusto Calle, 29, was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier north on Forest Avenue about 2 a.m. when he lost control of the car on a curve.

The car fishtailed nearly 100 feet before crashing into a tree near Simms Lane.

Police said the car struck the tree on the driver's side, trapping Calle, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

New school to organize, begin process to pick name

Meade Area Middle School, scheduled to open next year, will start to form its parents and community organizations at a meeting at 7: 30 p.m. April 29 at MacArthur Middle School.

Principal M. Jacques Smith said the process of picking a name for the new school will start also.

The school board has decided that middle school students who live in the attendance areas of Brock Bridge, Jessup, Meade Heights, Severn and Van Bokkelen elementary schools will attend the new middle school.

Meade Area Middle School is expected to open in January 1998 with seventh- and eighth-graders.

Sixth-graders will not start there until fall 1998, said Kenneth G. Lawson, associate school superintendent for instruction and student services.
