Hits And Misses

April 21, 1997|By Joe Strauss

On the field: Brady Anderson showed improved speed by stealing a base in the fourth inning and beating out a couple potential double plays.

In the dugout: Johnson inserted Jeffrey Hammonds into the lineup just before the game in place of Pete Incaviglia. Jerome Walton shifted to right field. Hammonds responded with a fourth-inning double to highlight a six-run uprising.

In the clubhouse: "I don't know. I have no idea. And I don't want to know." -- Catcher Chris Hoiles when asked if he knew his offensive success while catching Jimmy Key. (Don't tell Hoiles he's 8-for-16 with two home runs. Otherwise he's 8-for-30 with no home runs.)
