Winners Announced In School Media Festival

April 20, 1997

The winners of the 1997 School Media Festival have been announced.

Best of Show winners in photography were Jennifer Warner, North Carroll Middle, first; Jessica Boyd, Westminster High, second; and Tiffany Tarbet, Elmer Wolfe Elementary, third.

First and second place winners, awarded in color and monochrome by category and grade, were:

Life Study -- Grades K-2: Caitlin Costello, Mount Airy Elementary, first; Ashby Haines, Manchester Elementary, first; T. J. Desmond, Manchester Elementary, and Allyson Lethbridge, Elmer Wolfe, (tie) second.

Grades 3-5: Tiffany Tarbet, Elmer Wolfe, first; Christian Adami, Morning Star Christian, first; Brandy Anderson, Manchester Elementary, and Matthew Costello, Mount Airy Elementary, (tie) second.

Grades 6-8: Stephanie Wilhelm, North Carroll Middle, first; Laura Yingling, East Middle, first; Lindsay Burdette, Northwest Middle, second.

Grades 9-12: Amanda Boyd, Eileen Mitchell, both Westminster High, first.

Landscape -- Grades K-2: Brady Morris, Mount Airy Elementary, first; Andrea Haines, Manchester Elementary, first; Erik Adami, Hampstead Elementary, second; Evan Stultz, Elmer Wolfe, second.

Grades 3-5: Justin Walsh, Hampstead Elementary, first; Hannah Albrecht, Mount Airy Elementary, second; Karen Chmura, Morning Star Christian, second.

Grades 6-8: Meaghan Dimond, New Windsor Middle, first; Jennifer Warner, North Carroll Middle, first; Sara Roche, Laura Yingling, both East Middle, second.

Grades 9-12: Amanda Boyd (two categories), Westminster High, first.

Still Life -- Grades K-2: Caitlin Costello, Mount Airy Elementary, first; Andrea Haines, Manchester, first; Samantha Tate, Manchester Elementary, and Jessica Penn, Elmer Wolfe Elementary, (tie) second.

Grades 3-5: Matthew Costello, Mount Airy Elementary, first; Corinne Hamblet, New Windsor, second.

Grades 9-12: Hank Adams, Westminster High, first.

Experimental -- Grades K-2: Ashby Haines, Manchester Elementary, first.

Grades 6-8: Eric Avadikian, North Carroll Middle, first; Amy Reightler, Morning Star Christian, second.

Grades 9-12: Jessica Boyd, Westminster High, first.

Honorable mentions: Grades K-2: Jonathan Riecke, Manchester Elementary; Jessica Coppens, Allyson Lethbridge, Elmer Wolfe Elementary.

Grades 3-5: Nicholas Pivar, Elmer Wolfe Elementary.

In the Production Division, first place went to Rachel Brownley and Kendall Barnes, New Windsor Middle; and honorable mention to Debbie Bacher's first-grade class at Freedom Elementary.
