Motorcyclist hurt in single-vehicle crash

A Union Bridge motorcyclist was severely injured Wednesday evening after he drove off the road and into a ditch, police said.

Kevin D. Mitten, 24, of the first block of Farquhar St. was northbound on Ebert Road near Bark Hill Road when the vehicle went out of control on a curve, police said. Mitten was thrown from his Kawasaki ZX900 when he struck the ditch, police said.

Mitten was flown by state police MedEvac helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was in serious and stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said yesterday.

Charges are pending, police said.

Taneytown: Firefighters from Harney, Union Bridge, Frederick County Company 6 and Kingsdale, Pa., assisted Taneytown at 9: 09 a.m. Wednesday, responding to an electrical fire in the 5500 block of Taneytown Pike. Units were out 40 minutes.
