Hits and misses

April 17, 1997|By Joe Strauss

On the field: Chris Hoiles raised his average to .351 with three singles. He has four multi-hit games in his past five starts.

In the dugout: Manager Davey Johnson gave Rocky Coppinger his first appearance since leaving the disabled list. Coppinger faced 15 batters, allowed three hits and struck out one. He is pointed toward his first start next week.

In the clubhouse: "I got to the ball. I just dropped it. It didn't go in my glove. I just missed it. I don't know what else to tell you. I butchered it. I don't know what else to say. Ninety-nine times out of 100, I catch it." -- Right fielder Pete Incaviglia, who misplayed Frank Thomas' second-inning fly ball, leading to the White Sox's fifth run.
