White Sox update

They've added slugger Albert Belle to bat behind Frank Thomas, but the White Sox are behind everyone in the AL Central. Reason No. 1 why the White Sox found themselves 3-8 before last night's game against Texas: Belle and Thomas had combined for one home run and 10 RBIs. The home run belonged to Belle, as did a .178 (8-for-45) average. Former Oriole Harold Baines, hitting LTC behind Belle, had a .212 average. The only player who's been producing is leadoff hitter Tony Phillips, who began last night with a .359 average and had reached base at least twice in all but two games. Tomorrow, the White Sox must contend with Mussina, who limited Texas to three hits and a run in seven innings on Friday. Mussina was 2-2 with a 9.90 ERA against the White Sox last season. Boskie hasn't pitched since April 5, when he allowed four runs in four innings against the Rangers. Chicago third baseman Robin Ventura is out with a broken ankle.
