State police are checking red pickup trucks in Carroll County, hoping to catch a man suspected of robbing a half-dozen banks since December.

The suspect, who has been seen driving a red pickup after several of the robberies, is believed to be the man who robbed the Carroll County Bank & Trust Co. branch in the 4300 block of Old Taneytown Road in Finksburg about 2 p.m. Friday.

The man is described as being 20 to 40, between 5-foot-8 and 6-foot-2 with brown hair, said Lt. Lawrence E. Faries, commander of the Westminster barracks. He was wearing blue jeans, a plaid shirt or jacket and aviator sunglasses in the latest robbery, Faries said.

Police believe the same man robbed New Windsor State Bank in New Windsor on Dec. 12 and Forest Hill Bank in Darlington on Dec. 16.

He also is a suspect in robberies of NationsBank in Mount Airy on Dec. 21, Union National Bank in Westminster on Jan. 18 and First National Bank of Maryland in Frederick on March 25.

Anyone with information about the man or the red truck is asked to call state police at 410-848-3111 or the FBI at 410-265-8080.
