Hits and misses

April 14, 1997|By Joe Strauss

On the field: Brady Anderson was hit by a pitch for the fourth time this year. At least he got an RBI for his pain as Jeffrey Hammonds scored. Anderson is the only Oriole plunked this year.

In the dugout: Backup catcher Lenny Webster can't catch a break. Friday, he and reliever Alan Mills collided in the outfield, leaving Mills with a pinched nerve. Scheduled to start Saturday's day game, Webster was rained out for the second time in three days. He did not appear in yesterday's rout of Texas. Webster was to catch Scott Erickson on Thursday before that game also was postponed. Webster may get his shot tonight when Erickson finally makes his twice-delayed start.

In the clubhouse: "The guys have just been doing what they are capable of doing. We're an explosive ballclub. It's fun to see good defense and good pitching. That's the way I like to see baseball games." -- manager Davey Johnson.
