Horatio Alger Assembly set at high school

North Carroll High School will have a Horatio Alger Assembly at 9: 05 a.m. tomorrow.

The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans is a nonprofit educational organization that strives to educate youth about economic and personal opportunities in the United States.

The association offers scholarships to students and schools for their achievements and programs. North Carroll High was a recipient of the Prudential Spirit of Community Award.

Tomorrow's activities start with a continental breakfast at 8 a.m. The school band and concert choir will perform during the assembly.

Speakers will include Carroll County Commissioner Donald I. Dell, Carroll County school Superintendent Brian Lockard, and Principal Kent W. Kreamer.

Keynote speaker will be Rolfe Carawan, an educator, coach and football player.

Fire

Hampstead: Firefighters from Arcadia in Baltimore County assisted Hampstead at 2: 54 p.m. Thursday, responding to a brush fire in the the 200 block of Hanover Pike. Units were out 20 minutes.

Sykesville: Firefighters from Gamber assisted Sykesville at 4: 57 p.m. Thursday, responding to a fire alarm in the 5800 block of Bartholow Road.
