Westminster crews to flush fire hydrants through Wednesday

The Westminster Department of Public Works' Utility Maintenance Department will flush fire hydrants from 8 p.m. to midnight today through Wednesday.

Affected will be Pennsylvania, Ward, Hersh, Kemper, Milton, Sullivan and Schoolhouse avenues; West Main, Monroe, Carroll, John and Union streets; Westminster and Carroll Plaza shopping centers; and Autumn Ridge.

Flushing will cause discoloration of water, and residents are advised to refrain from doing laundry the next day.

Residents should open faucets first thing in the morning until a clear flow is received.

Residents should draw water the night before for the next morning. Water will still be fully treated and potable.

Pleasant Valley: Firefighters from Westminster and Manchester assisted Pleasant Valley at 9: 33 a.m. Thursday, responding to a fire alarm in the 300 block of John Owings Road. Units were out 15 minutes.
