N. County students to present 'West Side Story'

THAT BELOVED musical "West Side Story" is coming to the stage of North County High School at 7: 30 p.m. Friday and Saturday .

It's a production of the school's Drama Club, produced by senior Starr Lucas and managed by junior Sarah Huizinga. Starring will be Eli Senter as Riff; Patrick Reynolds as Bernardo; Brian Forte as Tony; Angela Brown as Maria; Jason Morgan as Chino; and Anna Schoenfelder as Anita.

The school is at 10 E. 1st Ave. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and are available from Drama Club members or at the door. Refreshments and T-shirts will be sold during intermission. Information: 410-222-6970.

Baseball's back

Play Ball! The baseball season officially begins in Brooklyn Park Saturday, when the Brooklyn Park Youth Athletic Association celebrates Opening Day. Festivities begin with a parade, starting at 8 a.m. at the Ritchie Highway Shopping Center, going up Morgan Road to 5th Avenue, down Marshall Road to 10th Avenue and ending at the fields on 10th Avenue. Anne Arundel County Police Chief Larry Tolliver will be grand marshal. Players from the softball, baseball and T-ball teams also will be in the parade, along with Sheriff George Johnson, Pooh Bear, the Crash Test Dummies, the Glen Burnie Twirlettes, Sparky the Fire Dog, McGruff the Crime Dog, antique cars and greyhound dogs. Members of American Legion Post 195 of Baltimore Highlands will provide the color guard. Opening ceremonies will begin at 9: 30 a.m. at the 10th Avenue fields. Speakers will include State Sen. Phil C. Jimeno, Del. Joan Cadden and former Oriole Dave Johnson. Angela Brown -- the same North County High student who'll play Maria in "West Side Story" -- will sing "The Star-Spangled Banner."

After the ceremonies, Johnson, a former pitcher, will sign autographs until 10: 30 a.m. The Oriole Bird will make an appearance from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lulu the Clown will also entertain from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Assembly talk

Interested in finding out what exactly took place during the 1997 General Assembly session? The Olde Brooklyn Park Improvement Association has invited Jimeno, Cadden, Del. John Leopold and Del. Victoria L. Schade to its meeting 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
