The name of Eastern Tech baseball player Jesse Cromwell was incorrect in a story that appeared in Friday's editions. The Sun regrets the error.
Eastern Tech was the epicenter of high school pitching prowess in the area yesterday as both its baseball and softball teams rumbled to slaughter-rule wins on no-hitters.
FOR THE RECORD - CORRECTION
Jesse Campbell led the baseball team (3-3) to a 10-0 win over visiting Hereford, striking out five batters and walking three in five innings.
Meanwhile, Sandy Birchfield was snuffing Chesapeake-BC, 15-0, in a shortened softball game. Birchfield, who also went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI, struck out 12 batters to improve the host Mustangs to 6-1.
Notre Dame Prep 29, Towson Catholic 0: Notre Dame Prep left-hander Michelle Garvey (1-1) tossed her first career no-hitter by pitching five innings and striking out nine against visiting Towson Catholic (0-4). Alison Hern went 5-for-5 to lead Notre Dame Prep's (1-1) offense.
