Last-minute help offered on tax returns State, federal offices expand operating hours

State and federal tax offices will expand operating hours beginning tomorrow to offer last-minute help to taxpayers filling out returns before Tuesday's deadline.

The state comptroller's office will open local offices from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow for walk-in assistance; telephone help also is available during those hours at 1-800-MD TAXES.

The Internal Revenue Service will expand its telephone service from 7: 30 a.m. to 10 p.m. tomorrow through Tuesday at 1-800- 829-1040. The IRS Website address is www.irs.ustreas.gov.

Also tomorrow, federal and state tax officials will help taxpayers from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Laurel Centre, Security Square Mall, Wheaton Plaza and White Marsh Mall.

On Monday and Tuesday, federal and state tax assistance will be offered at Fallon Federal Building at Hopkins Plaza from 8 a.m. to 3: 30 p.m. and at the State Office Building at 301 W. Preston St. from 8 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m.

Assistance also will be provided from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday at the Annapolis post office on Church Circle and from 6 p.m. to midnight at the main post office in Baltimore, 900 E. Fayette St.
