Storage trailer destroyed by fire

A trailer used to store mattresses at the Carroll County Recycling Center near Reese was destroyed by fire Saturday.

No one was injured in the 1: 54 p.m. blaze, which was brought under control in 30 minutes by firefighters from Reese and Westminster, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and damage was estimated at $4,000, state fire marshals said. The trailer was owned by Kirk Transportation Co.

Pleasant Valley honors firefighters, '97 officers

The Pleasant Valley Community Fire Company recently installed 1997 officers and presented awards for 1996.

Administrative officers are: Michael Stewart, president; Jack Wagner, vice president; Brenda Hay, secretary; Glenn Hay, treasurer; John Means Sr., Richard Smith, Robert Smith, Stephen Wantz, David Warehime, directors.

Fire line officers are: William Wantz, chief; Michael Gist, assistant chief; Daniel Leister, captain; Stephen Wantz, 1st lieutenant; Karl Wantz, 2nd lieutenant; John Royer Jr., 3rd lieutenant; Robert Fogle, 4th lieutenant; Richard Harman Sr., fire police captain; Fred Hooper, fire police lieutenant.

Ambulance officers are: Charles Lookingbill, captain; Jeffrey Schaffer, 1st lieutenant; Charles Velte, 2nd lieutenant; Randy Stair, 3rd lieutenant.

Foremen of apparatus are: Joseph Davis, Engine 61; Karl Wantz, Engine 62; Daniel Leister, Engine 64; Forrest Shaw, Brush 66; James Swartzbaugh III, Utility 6; Charles Lee, Ambulance 69; Robert Smith, Tractor 6.

Junior Fire Company officers are: Brian Wagner, president; Scott Wagner, vice president; Jaime Eyler, secretary; Gregory Stewart, treasurer.

The top 10 fire responders for 1996 were: Vincent Frock, William Wantz, Michael Swartzbaugh, Wayne Fisher, Donnie Moorefield, Forrest Shaw, Karl Wantz, Gregory Wantz, Charles Lee, Daniel Leister.

The top 10 ambulance responders were: Charles Velte, Wayne Fisher, Charles Lee, Michael Swartzbaugh, Charles Lookingbill, Jeffrey Schaffer, Wendy Bowersox, Kimberly Royer, Toni Sochrin, Michael Bowie.
