Rangers update

Texas won its opener Tuesday, 6-2, over Milwaukee in Arlington. The starting lineup included three former Orioles: second baseman Mark McLemore, who leads off, designated hitter Mickey Tettleton and center fielder Damon Buford. Two others, BTC infielder Bill Ripken and outfielder Mike Devereaux, also are on the roster. Buford, who has replaced Darryl Hamilton in center field, hit a two-run homer and an RBI double off ex-Oriole Ben McDonald in the opener. Former Yankees closer John Wetteland, who signed a four-year, $23 million contract over the winter, pitched the ninth, loading the bases and throwing 30 pitches. Even when he struggles, he's a huge upgrade over last season, when the Rangers blew 17 of 60 save chances. The Rangers, whose game with Milwaukee was rained out last night, are without outfielder Juan Gonzalez (torn ligament in thumb) and first baseman Will Clark (sprained wrist, fractured finger). Clark was put on the 15-day disabled list yesterday and Gonzalez began the season there. Outfielder Rusty Greer has returned after missing the last five spring training games with a bruised muscle in the back of his right shoulder.
