A Germantown man who was returning home from the Orioles' Opening Day game at Camden Yards was killed on U.S. 29 in Columbia.
Howard County police said Donald Morris Crowley Jr., 34, of the 18000 block of Chalet Drive was driving a 1987 Honda Prelude southbound on U.S. 29 north of Route 175 about 8: 23 p.m. Wednesday when he hit another car in the middle lane.
Crowley's car swerved across the fast lane onto the grass median before becoming airborne, police said. Crowley, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car after it rolled and landed in the fast lane.
Police said Crowley was driving above the speed limit when he hit the rear of a 1995 Saturn, which was driven by Craig Warren Milhiser, 28, of the 4700 block of Bethesda Ave. in Bethesda.
Milhiser was not speeding at the time of the accident, a police report said. He was able to retain control of his car and was not injured.
Police said empty containers of an alcoholic beverage were found at the scene. The accident is under investigation.
