No. 2 Virginia overpowers VMI, 31-4 4th-ranked Maryland crushes Radford, 21-2

Second-ranked Virginia got four goals each from Doug Knight, Mark Murphy and David Bruce in blasting VMI, 31-4, yesterday in men's lacrosse in Lexington, Va. It was the Cavaliers' fifth straight win.

The Cavaliers (6-2) raced to a 17-1 lead in the second period and held the Keydets (1-6) scoreless until 2: 46 of the fourth quarter. A year ago, Virginia beat VMI, 38-5.

Maryland 21, Radford 2: Bob Hanna and James Mollica each got his first career hat trick as fourth-ranked Maryland (5-2) crushed Radford at Byrd Stadium. The 19-goal margin of victory was the Terps' largest since they defeated the Highlanders, 26-3, in 1995.

Fourteen Maryland players scored, starting with Andrew Whipple's goal 18 seconds into the game. The Terps led 10-0 before Radford's Chris Karppala scored with 1: 23 left in the first half.

Villa Julie 17, Lycoming 14: Eric Schmith had eight goals and three assists to power host Villa Julie (2-6) past Lycoming (2-6).
