Officials seek cause of blaze that ruined van parked at bank

April 02, 1997

Fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a New Windsor man's van that was parked outside a Uniontown bank yesterday.

State fire marshals said a teller at the Taneytown Bank and Trust branch in Uniontown saw smoke coming from a 1986 Ford while Barry Wivell, the owner, and a passenger were in the bank.

About 20 firefighters responded at 1: 15 p.m. from New Windsor, Union Bridge and Taneytown and controlled the blaze within 10 minutes.

No one was injured, and damage was estimated at $2,000, fire marshals said.
