April 01, 1997

A 53-year-old Manchester man was ordered held at the Carroll County Detention Center on $25,000 bail yesterday after being arrested on charges of sexually abusing his girlfriend's daughter between January 1989 and December 1991, court records show.

The man is not being identified to protect the privacy of the girl, who is now 12. She has alleged that the man touched her inappropriately about four to five times a week whenever her mother left her alone with him.

According to court records, the man moved out in 1991 after the girl's mother said she saw him abusing the child.

No complaint was filed until November 1996. Police said in charging documents that the man told them he was using drugs and alcohol at the time of the alleged offenses.
