Deaf and hearing actors will combine sign language, gestural work and voice when they read "The water falls," a play by Willy Conley, at 7: 30 p.m. April 7 in the Head Theater at Center Stage.

The program is part of Origins, Center Stage's new play-reading series.

Conley's plays have been produced off-off Broadway and at theaters across the country, including Baltimore's Vagabond Theater and the Judith Anderson Theater at Gallaudet University in Washington. Conley has won the Sam Edwards Deaf Playwright Award and the American Deaf Drama Award, and has been honored by the Baltimore Playwrights Festival. Conley also has acting experience, including work with the National Theatre of the Deaf and the Cleveland Playhouse.

The play-reading series, which premiered in January, allows established and emerging playwrights to hear their plays read and gives the public a peek into the process of play development.

Discussion between the audience, cast and playwright -- in voice and sign language -- follows the reading.

Tickets to the reading are free, but reservations are required. Call 410-332-0033 or 410-332-4240 TTY/TDD.
