Spirit tonight

March 28, 1997

Opponent: Toronto Shooting Stars

Site: Baltimore Arena

Time: 7:35

Radio: Updates after each quarter on WWLG (1360 AM) and WASA (1330 AM)

Outlook: Injured Cris Vaccaro, the Spirit's No. 1 goalie, will miss the final two games of the regular season and is questionable for next weekend's playoffs. Vaccaro suffered a mild concussion in practice Tuesday when a ball rocketed off the foot of Albert Oni, hit him on the chest, rolled up his chin and struck him in the mouth. Vaccaro has headaches and scrapes on his face, and has been bothered by a slight hamstring pull. Joe Mallia and rookie Jim McCombs each will play one half tonight against Toronto and tomorrow night in Philadelphia against the Kixx in the regular-season finale. The Spirit was hoping for a sellout of 11,300 tonight, but is expecting about 8,000, which would be its highest of the season. Toronto, with the second-worst record (6-32) in the league, has dropped three straight and seven of its last 10. The Shooting Stars are 0-18 on the road. In the teams' only other encounter, March 2, the Spirit romped, 24-6.
