Easter weekend celebrations take center stage at churches

PREPARATIONS for celebrating Easter have center stage at church services.

Area churches invite you and your family to attend services.

Community United Methodist Church, 8680 Fort Smallwood Road, will have Good Friday services at 7: 30 p.m.

The church's music groups will join in an Easter cantata to be performed during the 9 a.m. and 10: 30 a.m. services Sunday.

Lake Shore Baptist Church, 4613 Mountain Road, will present an Easter cantata, "Greater is He," under the direction of music director Linda Kay Funk, at 7: 30 p.m. tomorrow and at the 8: 15 a.m., 9: 30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services on Sunday.

A sunrise service is planned at 6: 30 a.m. Sunday at the church.

Galilee Lutheran Church, 4652 Mountain Road, will have Good Friday services at 7 p.m.

Holy Communion services on Sunday will be at 6 a.m., 8 a.m. and 10: 45 a.m.

Pasadena United Methodist Church, 61 Ritchie Highway, will participate in a community Good Friday service from noon to 3 p.m. at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 400 Benfield Road.

Easter Sunday will begin with a sunrise service at 6: 30 a.m., to be followed by a fellowship breakfast at 7: 30 a.m. Worship services are scheduled at 9: 30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Our Lady of the Chesapeake, 8325 Ventnor Road, will offer the Stations of the Cross at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. today and the Good Friday liturgy at 6: 30 p.m. and 7: 30 p.m.

The blessing of food ceremony will be at noon tomorrow. The Easter Vigil will begin at 7: 30 p.m. tomorrow.

Easter Masses are at 8 a.m., 9: 30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

St. Jane Frances De Chantal Roman Catholic Church, 8499 Virginia Ave., will have a prayer service at 9 a.m. today and a traditional commemoration of Christ's passion at 3 p.m. A contemporary service will be held at 7 p.m.

Holy Saturday services include a blessing of the food prayer service at 9 a.m. and the vigil starting at 8 p.m.

Masses on Easter are at 7: 30 a.m. 9 a.m. 10: 30 a.m. and noon.

The youth group at Galilee Lutheran Church is having an Easter egg hunt at 1 p.m. tomorrow on the church grounds, 4652 Mountain Road.

Children, preschool through fifth grade, are invited to hunt for eggs and visit with the Easter Bunny.
