Kids will love 'Turbo'

Those five teen-age superheroes from the top-rated kids TV show get more powers and turbo-powered cars in movie No. 2.

"Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie" takes them to the rescue of Lerigot, a wise and gentle wizard, kidnapped by space pirate Divatox (Hilary Shepard Turner) to get a key that will free Maligore. Divatox plans to marry Maligore and rule the Earth.

Mixing bits from old shows like "Buck Rogers" with "Alien," "Indiana Jones," "Godzilla" and a little "Baywatch," "Turbo" is pretty silly stuff. But it entranced pre-teen youngsters at a preview screening.

There are half a dozen holes in the plot, characters aren't very clearly defined , and Divatox is a grating villainess, but the Power Rangers have such a following you could pit them against the pet dog and the kids would be content.

Though one sequence might be a little scary for younger children, "Turbo" should keep them happy, even if parents will be gritting their teeth through it all.
