Police Blotter is a sampling of crimes in Baltimore and Baltimore County.

Northern District

Robbery/arrest: A man tried to rob a woman in the 2200 block of St. Paul St. about 8 p.m. Monday and was wrestled to the ground by an off-duty Baltimore Zoo security officer, who held the suspect for police. The security officer, Anton Smith, 26, sprayed the suspect with Mace when he brandished what turned out to be a toy gun. Dwight G. Holmes, 32, of the 2300 block of Barclay St. was charged with attempted armed robbery.

Robbery: A man was purchasing drugs in the 2600 block of Loyola Southway about 1 a.m. Monday when two men struck him with an unknown weapon and robbed him of $20. The injured man was treated at Sinai Hospital.

Stolen car: A 1995 Honda with tags CYV 689 was stolen Monday in the 2300 block of N. Calvert St.

Stolen car: A 1995 Chevrolet Beretta with Pennsylvania tags XYJ 221 was stolen Monday in the 3200 block of N. Calvert St.

Robbery: A woman was in the 2200 block of St. Paul St. about 2 p.m. Monday when two men robbed her of cash and property, all valued at nearly $300.

Stolen vehicle: A 1991 Ford station wagon with tags EAZ 100 was stolen Monday in the 1000 block of Woodson Road.

Northeastern District

Robbery/shooting: A 25-year-old man was in the 4400 block of Belair Road about 8: 30 p.m. Monday when a man armed with a sawed-off .22-caliber rifle robbed him of $5, then shot him in the back when he tried to flee. The victim was in stable condition yesterday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Central District

Robberies: Two men were in the 1100 block of Hendler Lane about 6: 20 p.m. Monday when a teen-age boy robbed them of property valued at more than $300 while implying he was armed with a handgun.

Robbery: A woman was in the 300 block of Light St. about 9: 30 a.m. yesterday when a man threw her to the pavement and robbed her of more than $500 cash and a U.S. government income tax refund check for $600.

Western District

Assault: Police were seeking a man who struck a woman in the head with a handgun in the 1300 block of W. Lafayette Ave. on Monday. The woman was treated at an area hospital for eye and head lacerations.

Northwestern District

Theft: A homeless man stole a 12-gauge shotgun, television video games, stereo speakers and a compact disc player Sunday, all valued at more than $400, from a house in the 3900 block of Annellen Road, the home of a woman who befriended him.

Essex Precinct

Robbery: A pizza worker was delivering an order to an apartment the 1600 block of Gail Road about 8: 45 p.m. Sunday when four men attacked him in the hallway and robbed him of the food.

North Point Precinct

Theft: At least two people stole carpeting, valued at more than $1,000, that was left unattended Monday outside a county-sponsored senior citizens center in the 100 block of Center Place.

Cockeysville Precinct

Bank robbery: A man wearing a green jacket and green pants robbed Mercantile Safe Deposit and Trust Co. in the 2000 block of York Road in Timonium about 2: 17 p.m. Monday. The man gave a teller a holdup note.

Garrison Precinct

Robbery: A gunman robbed Custom Cuts, a hair salon at the Owings Mills Mall in the 10300 block of Mill Run Circle, of more than $500 about 11: 35 a.m. Monday.

Parkville Precinct

Robbery: A man who implied he was armed with a handgun robbed the Burger King restaurant in the 8300 block of Harford Road about 8: 30 p.m. Monday.
