Caruso's hat trick leads Goucher to tourney title Washington College wins fourth straight

Junior Ed Caruso scored three goals yesterday as Goucher won the Drew University Tournament championship with a 10-6 win over Tufts in Madison, N.J.

Goucher (5-3) outscored Tufts 4-1 in the third period to assume control.

Washington College 19, SUNY-Oswego 9: Andy Lopatin led the Shoremen (4-2) with four goals and two assists and John Fuller (Boys' Latin) added three goals and an assist in the home win. Washington College has won four consecutive games.

Mount St. Mary's 20, Niagara 3: Freshman Steve Ricker scored five goals, and Roland Miller and Brendan Moag added four each in a road romp.

The Mountaineers (4-3, 3-0) remained unbeaten in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. They led 13-1 at the half.


North Carolina 16, Towson State 5: Amy Fine scored five goals and Erin McGinnis four to lead the 12th-ranked Tar Heels past previously unbeaten Towson State (5-1) at home.

Amherst 17, Goucher 8: Heidi Cline had six goals and Alie Stechenberg added five for visiting Amherst. Kristin Carey (Towson) led Goucher (2-3) with three goals.

Mount St. Mary's 20, Marist 5: Jen Stocker scored a school-record eight goals to lead the Mountaineers (3-2) to an MAAC win at home. Stocker's four assists also ties a school mark.
