Winter's last word before spring arrives

March 19, 1997|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Maryland will get a reminder today that winter is still with us for one more day.

A cold front bringing frigid Canadian air into the mid-Atlantic region also was to bring snowfall after midnight, with about an inch accumulating on grassy areas in Central Maryland by morning.

"Let me emphasize 'on grassy surfaces' because the ground temperature is warm enough that I don't think there will be any problems with it on the streets," said Calvin Meadows, a National Weather Service meteorologist.

Temperatures are to be in the 50s for the arrival of spring tomorrow.
